The tech giants, Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Facebook have all grown exponentially over the last decade. According to Statista, on January 1st, 2010, Apple was valued at $191 billion. As of last month, Apple is now valued at $1.224 billion. This company grew 541% in just one decade. Based on the same dates, Microsoft was valued at $269 billion and is now valued at $1.16 trillion. That’s a 331% increase in value. The company that blew all the other tech giants out of the water over the last decade considering their growth rate is Amazon. Amazon was valued at $60 billion in January 2010, and it now is worth $865 billion. Amazon increased in value by 1,348% over the last ten years.
Think for yourself for just a minute: how do these five companies play a role in your day-to-day life? Can you go a full day without using one of their products, websites, or apps? The answer is most likely “no.” In fact, the majority of us probably use nearly all of these brands on a daily basis. Why? The answer is simply that they make our lives easier. Apple’s iPhone allows us to communicate via phone, FaceTime, iMessage, and email quickly and easily. Microsoft allows us to make Excel sheets and PowerPoints at work. Google allows us to find out how many calories are in a banana in 4 seconds and where the nearest Starbucks is. Amazon has revolutionized shopping in a way that we simply click on what we want, and it arrives at our doorstep. Facebook keeps us in the loop with what is going on in the world, and what is going on in the lives of our friends and family.
Consider how different these brands are now from how they were in 2010. They were huge companies a decade ago as well. In 2010, we could have never imagined how significant of an impact these tech giants would have on our day-to-day lives in 2020. So, what will 2030 look like for these companies, and what will life look like for us?
